A Brief Review of the A.C. Josephson Effect Determination of 2e/h

Abstract

In the decade between 1962 and 1972 the Josephson effects were developed from a slightly controversial theoretical beginning to the use in national standards laboratories of the a.c. Josephson effect as a quantum method of maintaining the volt. In this brief review we concentrate on the methods used to measure 2e/h, rather than a theoretical discussion of whether it really is 2e/h that is being measured.
