Far Beta-Unstable Alpha-Particle Emitting Nuclei

Abstract

The study of α-active nuclei has long been a fertile and effective means of probing the neutron-deficient shoreline of nuclear stability. α-emitting nuclei along with spontaneously fissioning ones also habit the zone, where the present frontier of elements lies. In this report we shall review recent experimental work on new α-active nuclei. The term “new α emitter” refers to nuclides not found to be α emitters at the time of the 1971 Atomic Mass Evaluation by Wapstra and Gove (1), or not included in it.
