Abstract

Binding of polypeptide hormones to specific receptors located on the cell plasma membrane is the first event in the action of these hormones in their target tissues. In agreement with this concept of peptide hormone action, identification of a number of specific hormone receptors has recently been accomplished (Roth, 1974).
