Abstract

The great importance of gold, silver, and the metals of the platinum group (PGM) is due to their intrinsic qualities and their comparatively rare geological occurrence. Their unique physical and chemical properties, which result in many specialized applications, combined with their high value, justify the large volume of work that has been done on their analysis.
