The Behaviour of Process Operators under Emergency Conditions

  • Chapter
Monitoring Behavior and Supervisory Control

Part of the book series: NATO Conference Series ((HF,volume 1))

Abstract

On many types of large-scale plant the penalties of a serious failure are now very great. This has been underlined by recent events such as the disaster at Flixborough. When a fault does occur on such a plant it is dealt with by the control system, which includes both the instrumentation and the human operator. As other control functions become more automated, attention focuses increasingly on fault administration.
