Abstract

One of Freud’s early ideas was that the mental processes made vivid in dreaming have an influence on everyday waking thoughts and behavior. A problem with this concept has been the difficulty in measuring and confirming the action of any psychic agencies that Freud postulated, such as the unconscious, the libido, or the id.
