Presence and Function of Metals in the Mitochondrial Electron Transfer System: Facts and Speculations

  • Helmut Beinert

Abstract

When I saw the first tentative program for this meeting provided by our organizers, and when I noticed that my lecture was proposed to be on “The Role of Metals in the Electron Transport System,” my first reaction was to say: “No!” True, we know a fair amount about metals associated with the system, but it is their role about which our knowledge is most deficient, or close to nonexistent in some instances.
