Computer-Assisted Instruction in Health Professions Education: Guidelines for Utilization

Abstract

The demands for health care and health manpower are outstripping the ability of educational institutions to meet these demands with traditional educational approaches and methods (Keller, 1965). These demands, coupled with the changing roles of the health professions, and the varied learning styles of students, are creating a growing sense of the need for better educational methods. Medical education is being challenged as never before (Stewart, 1968). Educators are seeking to modify their approaches to instruction in order to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning systems.
