Patients with an error in gender-identity differentiation occasionally present vexing problems of diagnosis and case management. The transvestite/transsexual patient illustrates this problem. Neither transvestite nor transsexual, the patient shares characteristics of each diagnosis, with the process of change from transvestism to transsexualism a prominent feature of the condition.
