Sex Education and the Structure of Moral Judgment: Effectiveness of a Form of Sex Education Based on the Development of Formal Structures of Value Judgment

Abstract

The researcher or the sex educator is confronted with four considerations when evaluating the quality and effectiveness of individual or group sex education. First, measurement of the pupil’s acquisition and comprehension of sexological knowledge, second, verification of changes which have taken place in the pupil’s sexual behavior as a result of sex education, or third, determination of change in the pupil’s attitude about sexuality may all be made. Finally, the fourth consideration might be to examine the influence this experience in sex education has had on the development and change of the pupil’s inherent sexual values. It would seem that, the fourth consideration, centered upon values is one of major importance today. Although a more detailed discussion of this fourth consideration is presented in Samson (1974), the following explanations are necessary.
