Abstract

A description is given of alloy trends and requirements for aircraft gasturbine components for which there exist major alloy-design opportunities. In the near term, emphasis is on reduced cost and improved durability. In the longer term, improved alloy performance becomes more dominant. There is ample opportunity for alloy design, research and development in new materials for gas-turbine engines despite the marked change in the research and development environment.
