Our Experience with Treatment and Rehabilitation of Patients with Spinal Cord Injury

  • Marian Weiss

Abstract

Since 1948 the Metropolitan Rehabilitation Center at Konstancin has been admitting patients referred to it from other hospitals following treatment for spinal cord injuries produced by fractures. At first, mainly complications with which the patients were sent for rehabilitation were treated. In a majority of cases, a normal plan of rehabilitation could not followed because the patients presented all the lesions and complications that develop in the acute stage as a result of improper treatment, such as decubiti, urinary tract infection and the typical psychological repercussions thereof. Moreover, a majority had extensive flexor spasticity [17], [33], [38].
