The Utility of a Piagetian Approach in Developing Precollegiate Science Programs for Minorities
From the moment a child is born, a life-long mental process is initiated in which there are many mental syntheses, combinations, resyntheses, restructurings, and reorganizations. Even at the outset, the child’s reasoning process occurs through an ordered sequence of events. This sequence allows the child to interpret the social and physical events that he or she encounters for the remainder of his or her life. Thus, even at this early stage of mental development, theories, although they may appear elementary to the adult mind, are formulated and serve as the initial basis for cognitive development.
