Mechanical Damping of Ionic Crystals with Regard to MgO

Abstract

The mechanical damping of doped polycrystalline MgO was measured. A symmetric Debye type peak could only be found in the case of a specimen containing Li+ with an activation enthalpy of (2,84+0,53) eV. A Debye type be­haviour of damping peaks is excluded when ions with a higher valence state (+3,+4) are introduced.
