Non-Quenchability of Some Transition-Metal Chalcogenides

Abstract

The establishment of the phase diagrams of transition-metal chalcogenides has so far been based mostly on the quenched specimens. Some of them, however, are not quenchable at all. The present report will briefly summarize the behaviors of those compounds through the comparison between the various measurements of quenched specimens and the in-situ observations at the synthetic temperatures. Attention is mainly directed to the VS-VS2(V0.50S) system.
