The Dynamics of Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, and Proton Transport under Normal Conditions

Abstract

In this chapter we develop a quantitative evaluation of the factors that govern the blood’s performance of its respiratory functions. Toward that goal, we advance a relatively simple model of the in vivo transport system, a set of phenomenological and conservation relationships descriptive of its steady-state behavior, and the results of numerical analysis of these relations.
