The greatly extended range of available radiological investigations including thermography, ultrasound, and isotope scanning, etc., has created an increasing problem in planning the correct approach to the investigation of a suspect cancer case. It should be axiomatic in surgical practice that in any investigation, given the same accuracy, the simplest and least invasive methods should be used first.
