Food Faddisms

  • Fredrick J. Stare

For many centuries, people have attributed special characteristics to certain foods. Garlic was long touted as an essential food for physical strength, cabbage was thought by some to have mystical powers to cure illness, truffles were generally agreed to assure great sexual potency, ad infinitum. These early food prejudices and practices have continued over the years, sometimes with slight modifications, sometimes unchanged, but never completely dropping out of the cultural heritage.
