A Graphic Approach to Understanding Intrapersonal Processes
Many persons fail to understand the role of their emotions and defenses in the origin of their own behavior. Frequently, the person with a destructive character disorder is unaware of the causes of his actions. He reacts without thought. Because of this lack of personal awareness, he can remain free of the anxiety, depression, and panic that are related to his internal doubts and conflicts. He tends to explain his behavior solely in terms of superficial and external circumstances. Such explanations absolve him of any personal responsibility for failure.
