The One-Dimensional Schrödinger Equation

Abstract

For several reasons, our discussion of electrons led us to a discussion of waves. Similar analogies led Schrodinger to postulate that the distribution of electron density and other properties of electrons in and out of molecules were determined from solutions to an equation similar to the wave equation. The consequences of this postulate have been verified in many applications, so we shall simply accept the elements of Schrodinger’s theory as correct. For us, they make up the rules that determine the distribution of electron density.
