My framework will be one, as Dr. Kass has already predicted, of a rather crass pragmatist. I have no expertise such as is represented by the other contributors, but I once had a fairly close association with public health. And since I was given the topic of talking about amniocentesis from the standpoint of the social standard, I have drawn a little bit on my past public health experience.
