Primitive Control of Cellular Metabolism

Life, as we know it, is the natural consequence of the environment and time. Biological laws are only special cases of the general laws of chemistry and physics. One of the first to state these ideas was A. I. Oparin, who also taught that we will understand the origin of life if we can follow the path back to the earliest life forms and in the process unravel the physics and chemistry of the primitive Earth (1). These teachings have influenced me to look at cell regulatory mechanisms in such terms and in this way complement the fundamental work on origin and evolution of the cell.
