Luminescent Alkali Halide Crystal Memory Elements
Quick-response energy transfer from light excited color centers to hole centers, storage in electron-hole centers and subsequent electron recombination luminescence are discussed as possible high-speed memory elements of large capacity. The output pulse intensity in some alkali halide systems is directly proportional to the intensity of the input pulse. In particular, these characteristics as they arise in the system KI-Tl with the Tl++ and F-centers as the working pair and an electron beam as the source of written information are discussed.
