Ionization of Luminescence Centers in Alkali Halide Phosphors by Unrelaxed Positive Holes

Abstract

A survey of experimental results of the ionization of luminescence centers at low temperatures is given. It has been concluded that these effects are connected with the capture of unrelaxed positive holes. The expression for the capture probability of unrelaxed holes is given. A comparison with experiment shows that unrelaxed holes may move a distance of about 50 lattice constants in KCl.
