The Effect of Dislocations on the Luminescence Spectra of CdS and CdSe Single Crystals

The effect of the dislocation density on the relative quantum efficiency of the luminescence of excitons, hound to neutral and ionized centers in CdS and CdSe, was studied. Dislocations were found to be effective centers for inelastic scattering of excitons, causing a considerable decrease, in the exciton life time. As dislocation densities exceeding 107/cm2 the exciton life time becomes shorter than the relaxation time of the excitons causing a change in both spontaneous and stimulated emission spectra.
