Transient Coherent Emission

Conference paper

Recently it was shown that molecules excited by cw laser radiation show coherent transient effects when their transition frequency is suddenly shifted. The use of Stark pulses, which act as a frequency switching mechanism, has led directly to the observation of optical nutation[1] and photon echoes[1]. In addition to reviewing these effects, two other processes which have just been observed are reported here.
