Abstract

The possibility of improving the intensity stabilization of an electromagnetic wave, once it acts as fundamental field in the second harmonic generation process, has been recently examined. The two limiting cases of chaotic and “quasi-laser” sources have been examined in detail [1]. A common feature consists in an enhancement of intensity definition, up to a certain traveled length of nonlinear crystal where it reaches a maximum. While this distance is a function of both the non-linear susceptibility of the crystal and the features of the beam, the achieved maximum only depends on the latter ones. Here we report the extension of these calculations to the relevant situation of initial Gaussian intensity distribution centered around a given value. The theoretical predictions are compared with some preliminary experimental results.
