The Use of Classical Solutions in Quantum Optics

Abstract

The problem I propose to consider is that of a number of identical two-level-systems coupled to the entire radiation field, which is represented by a large number of modes. I will discuss both the phenomenon of free decay of the systems from initial excited states, and the forced oscillation by the systems under an external resonant driving field. It will be seen that the classical results play an important role in supplementing the quantum mechanical analysis.
