Comments on Applications
Acoustical holography (1, 2, 3) is a young science, having been first conceived in 1964. It was immediately thought of as offering great potential for nondestructive testing (4, 5) of industrial components, metal and plastic parts, for medical diagnostics (5, 6, 7) and research, for oceanography (8, 9), the location of objects on the ocean floor and for geophysics (10, 11) in the mapping of subterranean structures, the location of oil fields and mineral deposits. Non-holographic sonic techniques have been used in all these areas. Holographic techniques offer the possibility of better synthesis of the information and the advantage of forming an image.
