Acoustical Holography, Liquid Surface Techniques
While scanned holography methods have the advantage of excellent sensitivity, they do have the disadvantage of having a low information handling rate and greater electronic complexity. If a single scan element is used, the scanning times for a single hologram range from 10 seconds to 30 minutes. If an array of scanning elements is used, considerable electronic circuitry is needed to sample each of the 100,000 or more elements either sequentially or in parallel. Essentially all the practical scanning systems reported on to date are two step systems in which a hologram is formed on photographic film and subsequently illuminated with coherent light to form an image.
