Abstract

In discussing reactions in organic non-aqueous solvents much that is interesting comes from comparing and contrasting the results in water, especially in that it is one of an important group of solvents, the hydroxylic solvents, the majority of which are organic. Thus although the emphasis here will be on organic solvents, results in water will occasionally become relevant to the discussion, as will some results in aqueous-organic solvent mixtures.
