For at least 150 years urologists have known that obstruction to the outflow of urine from the urinary tract increases its susceptibility to infection with pyogenic microorganisms. As long as the obstruction persists, infection is more difficult to eradicate. Elimination of the obstruction often leads to spontaneous disappearance of the infection..
