Passive Q Modulation
Q-modulation of an optical cavity can be accomplished by means of a passive optical shutter which is opened due to the action of the generated radiation itself. A passive optical shutter can consist of an absorbing medium placed in the laser cavity [15, 38, 49, 81, 100, 118, 143, 144, 145]. When generation begins, the absorbing centers are transferred to an excited state, and the medium becomes transparent (i.e., the shutter is opened).
