Equilibrium and the Stationary Ionization States

  • D. A. Frank-Kamenetskii

Abstract

If an incompletely ionized plasma is maintained under constant external conditions the simultaneous action of the ionization and recombination processes lead to the establishment of conditions in which the rate of ionization is equal to the rate of recombination. Thereafter, the densities of ions and electrons remain constant. A condition of this kind is said to be stationary.
