Abstract

This lecture deals primarily with the far infrared properties of atmospheric gases and appropriately is related to the spectroscopic instrumentation of the far infrared by virtue of it being the driving force for higher resolution. Further, the selection of the atmospheric gases is desirable for several cogerrt reasons: (1) variety of molecular types;(2) interest in the propagation properties at far infrared wavelengths and correction of observations; and (3) tbe possible application in studying the upper atmosphere.
