Abstract

Polarographic reduction of (β-amino ketones proceeds on the carbonyl group. The protonized form is reduced with an uptake of two electrons to the corresponding alcohol. The influence of structure in the ketones of the type R-COCH2CH2NR1R2R3(+) is discussed. At higher pH-values an elimination reaction occurs. The α,β-unsaturated ketone formed in this reaction is manifested by a separate wave on polarographic curves.
