Abstract

The electrolysis of organic compounds has been carried out for almost a century, but for a long time there was a rather limited understanding of the processes involved. Often, suggested reaction schemes were deduced only from a knowledge of the initial and final compositions of the electrolysed solution. Polarography has contributed more to the understanding of processes involved in the electrolysis of organic substances, than any other method.
