Abstract
Throughout his working life M. N. Livanov has endeavoured to put scientific knowledge of brain activity to practical use. One example of this aspect of his activity is the study of responses of the nervous system to ionizing radiation. The view that the nervous system plays a considerable role in responses of the animal and human organism to ionizing radiation owes its development mainly to Soviet investigators, and an important contribution to this work was made by Livanov. The results of research conducted in his laboratory are summarized in the monograph “Some Aspects of the Action of Ionizing Radiation on the Nervous System” published in 1962.
