Abstract

The species concept is basic to mineralogy, and it has undoubted practical significance. It is closely linked to the chemistry of minerals, to concepts of mineral genesis, and also to problems of classification and nomenclature. Mineralogy is essentially the science of mineral species, and so it is extremely important to establish what must be considered as a mineral species.
