Abstract

Yttrium orthovanadate crystals doped with neodymium are no worse than yttrium-aluminum garnet ones as regards chemical stability, melting point (1850°C) [1], and lasing features [2]. We have made [3] crystals by Verneuil’s and Czochralski’s methods, as well as by crystallization from high-temperature solutions. The most perfect crystals are those grown by Czochralski’s method, and a laser has been based on these [2, 4]. Here we consider the crystals.
