On the Creation of Negative-Temperature States in a Pinch-Discharge Plasma
The self-constriction of an electric current by virtue of its own magnetic field (the pinch effect) has been known for some time. It was first investigated by W. H. Bennett (Sr.) for a relativistic electron beam (1934).
