Abstract

Since the crystals examined are opaque in the infrared even at thicknesses of about 40 μ, which is the practical limit for polycrystalline plates, we measured the transmission spectra of these substances as powders. The grain size was about 5 μ, determined by microscopy and from the near-infrared transmission spectra. The transmission spectra* of powdered SrTiO3, BaTiO3, and CaTiO3 polycrystals measured at room temperature are shown in Fig. 10. The experimental points begin at λ = 18 μ in the shortwave region, i.e. , at the transmission edge of the polyethylene substrate (see Fig. 3).
