Abstract

Concepts and the practice of art psychotherapy are based on the recognition that man’s most fundamental thoughts and feelings, derived from the unconscious, reach expression in images rather than words. Margaret Naumburg has said, in her Introduction to Art Therapy (1973), that every individual has the latent capacity to project his inner conflicts into visual form, whether he is trained or untrained in art.
