Abstract

Much of the initial work on the anti-proliferative effects of interferon (IFN) was carried out using mouse L1210 leukemia, a useful model extensively for the study of anti-cancer agents (Waxman, 1975). Some of these studies, together with those on virus-induced and spontaneously occurring leukemias in mice will be reviewed. The in vitro effects of IFN on human leukemia blast cells will then be considered, prior to evaluating the preliminary results of clinical trials in patients with lymphoid and myelogenous leukemia.
