Abstract
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in men and in some countries already the second leading cause of cancer death in women. The incidence of the disease is still rapidly increasing in women, while a levelling off may be taking place in men. The overall five year survival has not improved significantly in the past 30 years and remains less than 10 per cent.
