Abstract
Shigellosis is the most common cause of bacterial dysentery seen in homosexually active men. In fact, a significant proportion of all cases of shigellosis has occurred in homosexual men in recent years. At New York Hospital, a retrospective study found that homosexual men comprised the majority of adult men with shigellosis; in Seattle, 30% of all cases of shigellosis occurred in this population.
