Testing the Interacting-Boson and Interacting Boson-Fermion Approximations by the Study of Radioactive Decay Schemes with the Unisor On-Line Isotope Separator

Abstract

Detailed studies of low-spin states are considered from the viewpoint of radioactive decay scheme studies and the description of such states in terms of the interacting-boson approximation (IBA) and interacting boson-fermion approximation (IBFA). The essential points of the IBA and IBFA are outlined. A discussion of excited O+ states in even nuclei is given, with particular emphasis on those kinds of O+ states that lie outside of the IBA model space. The techniques and criteria currently employed in radioactive decay scheme studies, as for example done at UNISOR, are summarized. The structure of the O+ states in the neutron-deficient Pt and Hg isotopes is discussed. Evidence is presented which suggests that proton intruder orbitals, such as π h9/2, play a significant role in the structure of the O+ states in tnis region.
