Abstract
The progress of a continuing research programme on the perception of textual cohesion hy older children is detailed and the implications of investigating the reading process from a global perspective considered. Data from the performance of 270 children in three age groups is analysed and developmental trends delineated. The growing ability of the children to process some of the textual features of cohesion is discussed.
