Abstract

The United Republic of Tanzania has an area of 939,704 square kilometres and a population of 15.3 million people. Over 90% of the population live in rural areas toiling as peasants for their livelihood. The population is growing at a fast rate of 2.7% a year and urban migration is high as indicated in the town population growth rate currently averaging 8% yearly.
