Abstract

Tamilnadu is situated in the South East extremity of Indian Peninsula with an area of 130 lakh hectares. The population according to 1971 Census is of the order of 41 million with a density of about 317 persons per sq. km. The decennial growth rate is of the order of 22.2%. Nearly 70% of the population live in rural areas.
